West Coast Director/Sr Manager of Programs
Based in LA, San Jose, Oakland, or Sacramento
Develop, direct, and implement Point Source Youth’s local work, including leading collaboration of all agencies, service providers, government officials and funders to come together with a common agenda and agreed-upon next steps. Ensure that the program’s short-, medium-, and long-term goals are met and that follow-up activities and documentation are carried to completion. Engage key stakeholders and government agencies regularly in order to develop and expand partnership opportunities. Participate in research and writing of position papers and policy recommendations.
Develop, maintain, and expand relationships with an extensive network of California based organizations. Publicize achievements, generate positive momentum, and create opportunities for collaboration.
Plan and execute a yearly west coast meeting to bring together a wide group of stakeholders. Ensure attendance of 200 persons in collaboration with co-sponsors in the end of 2018/early 2019. Carry out regular monthly and bi-weekly meetings as needed with local partners and stakeholders to drive short- and medium-term goals.
Lead efforts to work in Los Angeles, Oakland, San Jose, and then other California cities for two to four interventions: family and kinship strengthening, short-term host homes, rapid re-housing, and job training and placement for a livable wage. Lead expansion to additional California cites and expand work in existing cities.
Collaborate well with NYC HQ. Travel to NYC is required, including a two month stay to support our Second Annual Symposium on Solutions to End Youth Homelessness.
Help ensure funding goals are met for Point Source Youth, including engaging with potential funders and achieving an agreed upon goal of new funding from your efforts. Lead a Youth Advisory Board and ensuring youth voice is well represented in all programming and evaluation work locally.
Demonstrated commitment to addressing youth homelessness.
Lived experience prioritized.
Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in legislative and administrative public policy advocacy on behalf of youth experiencing homelessness, disconnected youth, and/or people experiencing homelessness.
Minimum of 5-7 years of experience working with government agencies, legislative bodies, nonprofit organizations, and coalitions. Comfort in communicating with high-level policy-makers and executive directors of California based organizations. Demonstrated ability to build effective partnerships across interest groups and sectors.
Ability to develop and execute an organizational strategy to effect change in the short, medium, and long term.
Ability to work effectively with front line staff, case managers, and a diverse group of local partners.
Ability to co-lead effective and meaningful youth engagement.
Proven ability to successfully fundraise from private, city, government, and foundation sources.
Proven ability and desire to work independently at home or at a co-working office.
Willingness to travel throughout CA and to NYC.
Proven ability to use data to shape rigorous, evidence-based policy messages and champion them across a diverse group California -ased stakeholders.
Ability to move organizations to effective action.
Proven experience with social media and creating effective messaging campaigns.
