Youth Homelessness and Family Reconnection - a Canadian Primer

Stephen Gaetz, PhD Director, Canadian Homelessness Research Network Associate Professor, Faculty of Education, York University

This presentation explores responding to youth homelessness by considering family reconnection as a cost-effective and appropriate program for some youth, particularly when integrated into a suite of services. The philosophy of family reconnection is explored while acknowledging the complexity of family relationships.

Specific outcomes--including family relationships, socio-economic data, and health status--from Eva's Family Reconnect Program are displayed. The integrated service model of the Boys and Girls Club of Calgary and Australia's Reconnect program are also shared, with a call for a systems approach.
