Minneapolis City Council Vice President Andrea Jenkins on youth homelessness, trans marginalization, and intersectionality

“…having this intersectional idea no matter what—transportation issues, housing issues, police reform. All of these things are impacting queer, trans, gender non-conforming people.”

We went to Minneapolis City Hall to interview the legendary Poet, Artist, Oral Historian, and Vice President of the Minneapolis City Council, Andrea Jenkins! In this video, Andrea discusses the poignancy of the year 2019 as the 50th Anniversary of the Stonewall Riots and the 400th Anniversary of the first enslaved Africans arriving in the US.

Andrea spoke to us about her journey to becoming the first trans woman of color elected to public office, maintaining her dedication to civic engagement, trans resilience, and the importance of working to end youth homelessness with an intersectional lens.
