The 8th Annual National Symposium on Solutions to End Youth Homelessness

Community guidelines

June 24 - 26, 2024

Baltimore, Maryland

Welcome to Point Source Youth’s 8th Annual National Symposium on Solutions to End Youth Homelessness! Our team is honored to host attendees from around the country and beyond who are committed to ending youth homelessness in their communities by placing power and resources in the hands of young people. We are so excited for each of you to learn, share, and connect throughout our two-day in-person conference. As an organization, we prioritize inclusivity and the safety of our community. If you feel unsafe at any point during the conference, reach out ASAP and take care of yourself as needed.

Throughout our conference, you’ll be delving into topics and themes that will be challenging to hear and share. In order to create actionable next steps to end youth homelessness in the US, we must first address the systemic inequalities and oppressions that inform the crisis. As such, we urge you to please feel affirmed to take care of yourself and those around you.

For many community members at the conference, several topics will be potentially triggering and/or re-traumatizing. Please ask for consent before initiating conversations that might contain triggers and please feel free to remove yourself from any spaces — physical or digital — that do not affirm your needs.

Our Community Moderators will be providing support in time on the WHOVA app, and in person at NYU, to ensure that it remains an affirming, inclusive, and brave space to connect with others.

Our Conference is a place to:

  • Connect with others in the movement to end youth homelessness and broader movements for racial, economic, LGBTQ+, and gender justice

  • Share and learn from the experiences of others

  • Uplift and affirm each other

  • Coordinate networking opportunities

Our Conference is not a place to:

  • Judge others

  • Compromise attendees’ identities or co-opt attendees’ likenesses. Please refrain from engaging in potentially exploitative behavior in terms of other attendees’ personal information. We encourage networking, but please help us keep folks safe.

  • Inflict hostility or toxicity unto others in any form

  • Threaten or intimidate others

  • Engage in any form of abuse, hate speech, shaming, and bullying

Examples of verbal abuse include but are not limited to, verbal comments related to gender identity/expression, sexual orientation, disability, physical appearance, body size, race, religion, national origin, inappropriate use of nudity and/or sexual images in public spaces or in presentations, or threatening or stalking any attendee, speaker, exhibitor/sponsor, PSY staff/committee members, service provider, volunteers, or other meeting guests.

We are committed to creating a safer, more inclusive space for all. We welcome and celebrate folks of various sexual orientations, gender identities or expressions, ethnicities, nationalities, religions, ages, disabilities, languages spoken, immigration status, and economic status. In this space, every attendee will be valued and respected — the creation of this space must be a group effort.

If you are found to be in violation of the above Community Guidelines, you will be immediately removed from the Symposia virtual community without warning or refund.

Grievances

We want to ensure that everyone at our conferences feels heard. However, we will consider grievances shared by folks who feel like they were unfairly accused of violating Community Guidelines judiciously. A participant who believes they were falsely or unfairly accused of violating Community Guidelines should notify conferences@pointsourceyouth.org with a concise description of the grievance. All grievances will be handled in accordance with existing governing policies.
