Direct Cash Hawai’i

Direct Cash to Prevent Youth Homelessness

What Is Direct Cash Hawai’i?

1. The Targeted Housing Assistance Program offers a scalable and youth-driven solution to prevent youth homelessness in Hawai’i by providing immediate financial assistance and comprehensive supportive services.

2. 50 young people ages 16-24 who are residing in Hawai’i and experiencing a housing crisis are eligible to enroll in the program.

3. Hawaiʻi experiences disproportionate rates of homelessness among Native Hawaiians and young people who identify as LGBTQIA+. Our direct cash assistance program will prioritize young people from these communities to help reduce youth homelessness and improve housing stability across Hawaiʻi.

Upcoming: Direct Cash Hawai’i Kickoff & Cash Distribution

Point Source Youth (PSY) is working to support the launch of Direct Cash Hawai’i. We are meeting with Partners in Care (PIC) and the Hawai'i Health & Harm Reduction Center (HHHRC) for training and implementation planning, including data, processes, and program workflows.

The Direct Cash Hawaiʻi team is also recruiting a PSY Hawai’i Youth Consultant. PSY is hosting a Direct Cash Hawai’i Kickoff on January 16th, bringing together HHHRC, PIC, PSY, and partner organizations including Youth Outreach (YO!) and Residential Youth Services & Empowerment (RYSE) to connect and learn more about the program.

In mid-February, partners will participate in a four-part training series, and cash distribution is expected to begin in early spring.

On The Team

This initiative is led by the Oregon Department of Human Services, who partnered with Youth To The Front to publish a report on how the first phase of the pilot impacted lives. Youth consultants and PSY facilitated the distribution of cash and ensure community voices are at the forefront.
