Director, Youth Leadership & Advocacy

Andrew Gutierrez III (he/him/they/them) identifies as a Queer Mixed Race: Mexican and Filipino American who has experience as a classroom teacher, service provider, researcher and community organizer. Graduating from the College of Ethnic Studies at San Francisco State has fueled Andrew’s passion for organizing with BIPOC and LGBTQ+ communities throughout California. Working with LYRIC, Andrew coordinated a leadership institute for Queer and Trans youth in San Francisco’s Castro District. This inspired Andrew to pursue a Master’s in Education from UCLA, where he designed curriculum and taught courses in Ethnic Studies and LGBTQ Studies for K-12 teachers in Los Angeles. By working at USC and Safe Place for Youth (SPY), Andrew developed SPY’s Host Home Program and led efforts to scale the program throughout the County of Los Angeles. Andrew has provided technical assistance to agencies across the country interested in implementing Host Home Programs. Before coming to Point Source Youth, Andrew managed the Youth Advisory Board (YAB) at Larkin Street Youth Services which focuses on youth empowerment, advocacy, and policy. In this role, Andrew empowered youth to lead local campaigns, mobilize community members and meet with legislators and policymakers. Andrew is excited to join the team and looks forward to collaborating with communities to end youth homelessness!
